REVIEW: ‘Tango Moderno’ – Milton Keynes Theatre, November 2017

Contemporary tunes and a myriad of movement styles ensure Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace’s Tango Moderno is an entertaining and accessible dance show.

It takes two to Tango – unless you are Flavia Cacace missing regular partner Vincent Simone. The former Strictly Come Dancing professionals’ new production (co-choreographed with director and choreographer Karen Bruce) uses the power and passion of well-executed dance to make a series of observations on modern life. Unfortunately, the dazzling duo are struggling to grace the stage together so far on the tour due to Vincent suffering with a recurrent injury.

Still, the show must go on and the always fabulous Flavia was partnered by not one but two stand-in dancers on opening night of Tango Moderno at Milton Keynes Theatre: Pasquale La Rocca and Leonel Di Cocco.

NEWS: Dancers Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace to return – Milton Keynes Theatre, November 2017

Everyone knows it takes two to Tango and dancing duo Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace are teaming up once again to show us exactly how it’s done.

The former Strictly Come Dancing professionals return to Milton Keynes Theatre with Tango Moderno, a smouldering new stage spectacular, this month.

We last saw Vincent and Flavia in November 2015 during their farewell tour. This last hurrah was meant to be all about them officially bidding adieu to the world of theatre with their third production, The Last Tango.

REVIEW: Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace in ‘The Last Tango’ – Milton Keynes Theatre, November 2015

A lifetime of precious memories is presented through a whirlwind of dance in The Last Tango, Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace’s farewell theatre production.

The dazzling duo are bidding adieu to audiences nationwide with their last ever full-length, grand-scale touring stage show: The Last Tango. Hot on the heels of their two previous smash hits, Midnight Tango and Dance ‘Til Dawn (both shows enjoyed stints in the West End as well as visits to venues across the country), The Last Tango brings the couple’s foray into theatre to a captivating close.

Reluctant to change a successful formula, Vincent and Flavia have once again worked with Olivier Award-winning choreographer and director Karen Bruce. They have also kept charismatic character artist Teddy Kempner as a central focus, tying all of the action together. The result is another breathtaking display of dance, expertly interlaced with music, songs, comedy and drama.

INTERVIEW with Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace, September 2015

Dance duo Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace have thrilled audiences with sizzling Tango routines on Strictly Come Dancing, been crowned World Argentine Tango Champions, and created and starred in their own Olivier Award nominated West End productions.

Georgina Butler had a sneaky peek at rehearsals for their third, and final, theatre show The Last Tango before quizzing the passionate pair about their dancing destinies.

It takes two to Tango but Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace are hoping that the number three will prove to be lucky for them this year. After enjoying sensational success with their previous two sell-out shows Midnight Tango and Dance ‘Til Dawn, the Italian dancers are looking forward to completing a trilogy with their most engaging production yet.

On Thursday 17th September, they will begin a 32-week farewell tour of the brand new show, aptly named The Last Tango. Vincent and Flavia are bidding a fond farewell to the world of theatre by giving fans in cities nationwide their last ever chance to see the well-loved partnership perform live in a full-length work. Audiences should expect captivating choreography accompanied by superb singing and marvellous musicians as Vincent and Flavia will be joined by a strong supporting cast of talented performers.

Rehearsals were coming along very nicely indeed when I was invited to preview some routines earlier this month.

FEATURE: ‘The Last Tango’ Rehearsals with Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace – London, September 2015

Dancing comes naturally to Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace. The pair’s passionate professional partnership on Strictly Come Dancing endeared them to the nation and, since leaving the ballroom behind, a foray into musical theatre has seen their fancy footwork thrill audiences in venues nationwide. Now, hot on the heels of the success of Midnight Tango and Dance ‘Til Dawn, comes the dynamic duo’s third production: The Last Tango.

As the name suggests, The Last Tango is Vincent and Flavia’s grand finale. The show opens this month ahead of a 32-week farewell tour to give fans all over the country one last chance to see them perform live on-stage in a full-length piece. The World Argentine Tango Champions have been dancing together for twenty years and now it is time for them to pause, reflect upon their successes and consider new projects – but not before saying goodbye to theatre in style!

Described as their “best show yet” by the smooth-talking Simone, The Last Tango has been devised as a celebration of Vincent and Flavia’s most intimate, emotive and beautiful dance moves. Anticipation is high and expectations are even higher so I was chuffed to be invited to watch the cast in rehearsal.
